Artesania Latina St Malo
HISTORY OF FRENCH DORIS SAINT MALO
Discover the wooden model of the French doris Saint Malo. This Canadian fishing boat was used on the Massachusetts and Nova Scotia schooners, but lately it was introduced in France, Spain and Portugal.
The ship type doris were transported by means of mother ships, usually schooners on whose roofs the doris traveled stacked, and were used by one or two crew on the banks of Newfoundland to fish for cod.
During the day they returned to the mother ship several times to unload their catches. Due to their strength, low cost and ease of stowage, the Doris continued to be used as working boats on sailboats and many other motor boats.
