Krick Gulnara
Built in 1834 in England and coming into service for the Sardinian navy in 1835, the Gulnara is a typical example of the transformation from sailing ship to steamer. As observation, escort and passenger ship, the Gulnara served Sardinia until 1861. She was then taken over by the Italian navy.
The Gulnara was fitted with an oscillating steam engine made by the company Fawcett & Preston, Liverpool. When under sail, a section of the paddles could be folded back to reduce resistance.

The Krick Model of the Gulnara is a perfect example of the transition from sail to steam, making this model an interesting and unusual subject. As with most ships of this period, she was built in England in 1834. She was bought by the Sardinian Navy for escort and mail duties.

With her slim and elegant hull, interesting superstructure complete with boiler and high stack, and harmonious sails, the model Gulnara is a treasure from the pioneering days of steam.
The Krick Gulnara kit features die-cut keel, bulkheads, deck and paddle housings. Double plank on frame construction in lime and walnut. Deck planking, brass funnel davits and stanchions. Photo etched brass funnel top and shroud straps, all necessary cordage in black and natural hemp, walnut blocks, deadeyes, silk flags, wood dowel, cast stern windows, anchors and figurehead. Very detailed full size plans and comprehensive instructions are included. Sail sets are pre-stitched and available separately.
