This type of boat dates from the 17th century. As a fishing boat, it had its heyday in the 18th century, until the motor-driven fishing boats arrived. The Nordland boats were incredibly efficient and very seaworthy. They represent a boat culture and boat shape originating from the Viking ships.
Even today, these boats are being built. They participate in rallies and regattas all along the Norwegian coast.
